Research

Research at the National Zoological Gardens of South Africa, can offer South Africa, Africa and the international research community a unique infrastructure to facilitate, co-ordinate and conduct world class research.

Overview
The NZG aims to undertake strategic, innovative short and long term interdisciplinary basic and applied research aggregated into core research programmes and knowledge hubs in cooperation with other zoological gardens, conservation agencies, academic and other institutions in order to contribute to viable wildlife populations within the biodiversity conservation landscape.

Research programmes and knowledge hubs
The NZG has identified three programmes and two knowledge hubs to further the research agenda.

Research orientated services
Several research orientated services are rendered by the NZG which include zoological diagnostic pathology and molecular genetics.
